Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation

Veterans are entitled by law to a wide range of medical services and financial benefits. Post 543 provides direct support through various programs.

National Security / Active Duty Support

Each year Post 543 supports the Marine Thanksgiving with local families by funding and coordinating bussing for single enlisted Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune NC. The goal is that no Marine be alone on Thanksgiving.

Americanism

Under a formal Memorandum of Agreement between Post 543 and the Town of St. James, Post 543 has the sole responsibility for the maintenance of the Town of St. James Veterans monument, memorial brick walkway, landscaping, and electrical illumination.

The Post 543 Americanism and Children and Youth Committees strive to instill patriotism and citizenship through education and leadership, working with educational institutions and other organizations supporting Americanism and citizenry in our communities.

  • The Honor Guard presents the colors at all monthly and special meetings. It is and important part of any Post participation in parades and other ceremonial events.

The Post 543 Honor Guard was created from a need our members identified in 2013 to provide Military Honors at funerals, honor our Flag, and represent Post 543.

  • We honor fallen veterans with funeral honors.
  • Presents the colors at all monthly and special meetings. 
  • Participation in parades and other ceremonial events

Memorial Site

At this site, Post 543 conducts ceremonies on Memorial Day, Veterans Day and other appropriate occasions.
The walkways surrounding the monument are composed of engraved ceremonial bricks containing the inscriptions honoring friends and family members of their donors.

Memorial Upgrade

Post 543 provides the care and maintenance of the St. James Veterans Memorial outside the Town Hall. Post Members worked with NC Marble and Granite who provided materials and equipment to raise the stature of the Monument, and reface one surface, which allowed us to place the Service Seal of the U.S. Space Force, to accompany the other five military services.
